Mayor's Arts Awards winners announced

“Musician Ricky Brant won a “Creator” award at the Mayor’s Arts Awards ceremony Monday night.

There were also three “Creator” awards handed out, each of which came with a $2,500 prize.

Musician Ricky Brant is a multi-instrumentalist (guitar and keyboards) and composer who currently performs as funk act KaKaow.

The award winners were selected by the Nominations Working Group that was established by the Arts Advisory Committee. The Nominations Working Group included two members of the Arts Advisory Committee, Tim Fort and Nadine Baker, as well as community members Kathryn Mackay and Rob Howard. Sculptor Chaka Chikodzi, who received a creator award last year, was also a member of the group, as was city councillor Jim Neill.”
